Sea Base Crab Recipe

Note:  reduced cream base is simply heavy cream that has been reduced by about a third through gentle simmering (stir constantly!)

Also, fry the cakes in bacon grease instead of clarified butter if you wish.

Ingredients

Yield: 20 ounces crab mixture
Portion: 6 1/2 (3 ounce) cakes
  • 1 pound | Crab, back fin
  • 4 ounces | Reduced Cream Base
  • 1/4 cup | Panko-style breadcrumbs
  • 2 teaspoons | Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon | Kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon | Ground black pepper
  • As needed | Clarified Butter Oil Tub

Preparation

1.     Combine all ingredients. Refrigerate at least 1 hour before forming crab cakes.
2.     Form mixture into desired portion for each crab cake.
3.     Heat Clarified Butter in large sauté pan over medium heat. Add crab cakes, pressing lightly to form patties. Brown on one side for 2 to 3 minutes, then flip once and brown the second side until the mixture is cooked throughout.

Ship It to Sea Base with Bullard Shipping, Ltd.

B'wana,

I have the address and go-ahead from Sea Base for sending stuff down that we do not want to take through airports.  Maybe make a blog post letting everyone know that I will bring the box for the entire group to the meeting on the 8th.  That will have to be the last day so we can make sure it’s there when we get there.  I will include a shipping sticker in there for return shipping so we can get the stuff home as well.  Let’s keep it down to a pocket knife or so.  Everyone’s knife/whatever has to get into the same box.  Maybe also stress to check the Sea Base website for the contraband list.

I’m packed. Woot.

this just in!

From Eric Bullard:  Suggest blog post on those dates since folks are getting ready to buy the licenses after last night’s meeting?  I know I operate somewhere just at caveman level but many scouts may wonder the same.

From B'wana:

29,30,31  Looks like the best days.
27th arrive at Sea Base.  No fishing.  spend night in dorm.
28th canoe out to Big Munson Island, "move in".  I would guess no fishing today.
29, 30, 31  snorkeling and fishing activities
June 1 paddle back to Sea Base.  Spend night in dorm.
June 2 depart Sea Base.

Do you need a fishing license?

YES.  All of the adults and most of the boys will need a $17.00 saltwater fishing license.  I can help you get it if you need help.  If you want to do it yourself, go to http://myfwc.com/license/recreational/saltwater-fishing.
You adults:  even if you are old like I am, you need one.  Exception:  can you prove that you are old AND a resident of Florida?

In general if you are 16 or older when we make the trip, you need the license.
